KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A familiar face in the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver room was welcomed back to the facility Friday for the final day of voluntary OTAs.
After signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs for the 2024 season, wide receiver Mecole Hardman was back on the practice field, a welcome site for head coach Andy Reid and the back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
“He brings good energy and it’s good to have him back out there,” Reid said of the now sixth-year pro out of Georgia.

Hardman re-joined Kansas City during the middle of the 2023 season after being acquired in a trade with the New York Jets. The 26-year-old signed a one-year deal prior to that year, but had no success with the Jets following quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles tear.
In six regular season games during the 2023 season, Hardman had 15 receptions for 124 yards. In an overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, Hardman had three catches for 57 yards, including the game-winning walk-off touchdown grab.
“I think we know how to use Mecole, and Mecole knows that we know how to use Mecole the best — in his best way,” Reid said. “And he’s a smart kid, so he’s a good learner that way and he’s a light player to the other couple guys that have speed.
“Not the biggest guy, but speedy guy so you like those light components.”
The Chiefs wrapped up the voluntary portion of their OTA schedule on Friday, a day after they were supposed to. The delay was the result of defensive end BJ Thompson going into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting on Thursday.
